Azeri RNA's at $4.4 million

The champion mare, in foal to a champion horse, has RNA'd at Keeneland.

“I know Michael Paulson has stated his emotional attachment to Azeri, and it’s an obvious question given what happened with the yearling, but it’s a non-issue,” Sikura said from his barn at Keeneland on Saturday. “Azeri is here to be sold. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t be here. The experience of the yearling—that was then and this is now.

“Azeri is going to be sold to the highest bidder. We discussed that prior to bringing her here, candidly. Somebody is going to buy a great, great mare.” [Thoroughbred Times]

Comments:
Well, so much to keeping Michael Paulson to his word. I guess "highest bidder" means the bidder who pays what Paulson wants.

“It was an opportunity for us to see where the market was,” said Paulson of Azeri’s January sale experience. “We set a very fair reserve, and the market and us were real close. We were just a hammer or two away from getting the deal done. She’s due to foal here in about three months, so we’ll see where it goes from there, but it can’t be too bad having a mare like that in your barn.” [BloodHorse]

I'm curious how many times the "market" lets him get away with crying wolf before they stop listening altogether. Just sayin'.

I agree 100% I have always taken Michael Paulson's comments with a grain of salt. You can never be sure as to what his ulterior motives are with anything. One thing which couldn't be in dispute is the quality of Azeri. That horse paid for my house!
